Sideline Reporter Hannah Mears’s brother and Colorado School of Mines Athletics graduate Tyler Mears of Latrobe, Pennsylvania has sadly passed away. He died on Thursday 7th November 2024. He was announced dead on Tuesday through a post that reads “It’s with a shattered heart I write this post. My brother, Tyler, went to heaven way too young and with way too many possibilities left in life on Thursday.” The cause of his death is unknown.
Hannah Mears’ name was quickly becoming synonymous with sports journalism in Pittsburgh. From her early days at Penn State to her current role as a sideline reporter for KDKA-TV’s Steel City High School Showcase, Hannah’s career has taken off in impressive fashion. But behind her success lies a deeply personal story of family, love, and the powerful bond she shared with her brother, a man who, though no longer with us, left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Hannah’s brother was a man loved by many, not only for his talents and accomplishments but for his selflessness and generosity. A standout athlete, he attended Greater Latrobe High School, where he made a name for himself as a key player on the Boys Varsity Football team. After high school, he continued to pursue his passion for sports, this time at the Colorado School of Mines. There, he joined the wrestling team, further proving his dedication to athletics. It wasn’t just his athleticism that people remembered, however. He was the kind of person who always put others first, whether it was helping a teammate improve their performance or supporting his friends and family.
He was particularly close to his sister, Hannah. Their bond was undeniable, and even as both siblings pursued their separate dreams, they always made time for each other. For Hannah, her brother was a constant source of love and encouragement. Their relationship serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of family in shaping who we are and what we accomplish in life.
A graduate of Penn State, where she developed her skills and passion for broadcasting, Hannah was already making waves before she even graduated. Upon earning her degree, she quickly joined the Westmoreland Sports Network, where she worked as a sideline reporter, covering local sports events and making a name for herself in the industry.
Hannah’s talent didn’t go unnoticed. During her time with the Westmoreland Sports Network, she also gained valuable experience working as a broadcast associate for the MLB Network, where she contributed to various aspects of sports coverage. But perhaps the most significant step in her career came when she joined the Pittsburgh Penguins as a part-time editor and on-air talent, a role she was thrilled to take on following a successful internship with the team. Though her time with the Penguins was short, it marked a pivotal moment in her professional growth.
