Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is currently investigating the death of a man discovered at a Planet Fitness on the city’s south side on Monday morning. Officers responded to the 8700 block of Hardegan Street, the location of the gym, at approximately 9 a.m. after reports of a death investigation.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found the body of a male individual inside the facility. However, details surrounding the exact location of the body within the gym and the circumstances leading to the discovery have not been disclosed by authorities. IMPD has stated that the investigation is still ongoing, and no further information has been released at this time.
The department is working to piece together the events that led to the man’s death. The Marion County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that it will release the victim’s identity once his family has been notified. The discovery at Planet Fitness has left the local community in shock, and gym members who were in the area at the time of the incident are being urged to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation.
As the investigation unfolds, IMPD is asking anyone with relevant information to contact their homicide division or Crime Stoppers. While the cause of death remains unclear, IMPD investigators are working diligently to gather evidence and speak with witnesses who may have been inside the gym at the time of the incident. It is still uncertain whether foul play was involved, but police have not ruled anything out.
Planet Fitness, a popular 24-hour fitness center chain, has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information about the case to reach out to the IMPD’s homicide division at (317) 327-3475 or to remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
