Orono High School student Lucas Knudson of Minnetonka, Minnesota has died. He passed away on Sunday 17th November 2024 after being involved in a fiery crash. According to report, Lucas was behind the wheel of a 2024 Cadillac Lyriq, traveling eastbound on Highway 7 in Minnetonka.
At approximately 10:45 p.m., Lucas veered off the roadway at County Road 101, striking a light pole. The force of the collision caused both the car and the light pole to burst into flames, as captured by traffic cameras at the scene. Despite the efforts of first responders, the crash left Lucas with fatal injuries.
Lucas was a beloved senior at Orono High School, where he was known not only for his academic achievements but also for his sportsmanship and community involvement. He had attended Orono schools since kindergarten and quickly became a fixture in the school’s social fabric.
A dedicated student, Lucas was recognized for his strong work ethic and was an active member of the school’s varsity basketball team. He also participated in Unified and Letters of Love, initiatives aimed at fostering inclusivity and support among students of all abilities. Outside the classroom, Lucas was known for his friendly and kind demeanor.
He had a wide circle of friends and was loved by many for his positive attitude and willingness to help others. In response to Lucas’ death, Orono Schools announced that grief support services will be available to students at Orono High School. School counselors and support teams will be on hand to assist students and staff who may need help coping with the loss of their classmate and friend.
