A 51-year-old man from Providence died following a crash on I-95 North in Exeter on Sunday night. Rhode Island State Police report that a 16-year-old was driving a Toyota Highlander with his mother in the front seat and towing a Honda Accord, which was being steered by his father.
A truck collided with the vehicles, which were not properly secured—using only tie-down ropes without safety lights. A witness said the car was traveling well below the speed limit, and the truck driver claimed not to have seen the vehicles.
The father was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the boy and his mother sustained minor injuries. The truck driver was uninjured. The crash, which occurred near Exit 9, closed all lanes of traffic for nearly four hours. The family is from Peru, but their names have not been released.
