Former University of Washington basketball player Regina Rogers-Wright of Seattle has died. She passed away leaving behind her beloved family who will forever miss her. She was confirmed dead through a Facebook post that reads “Rest in peace to a legend in the Seattle basketball community, University of Washington and beyond.” The cause of her death has not been revealed.
Regina’s academic journey began at Chief Sealth High School in Seattle, where she attended between 2003 and 2007. It was here that she first developed a deep interest in understanding the complexities of human behavior and societal structures. After graduating from Chief Sealth, Regina pursued higher education at the University of Washington, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology in 2012.
The study of sociology at the University of Washington provided Regina with a strong foundation for her future work in education, social work, and child welfare. Her time at the University of Washington also nurtured her passion for understanding the challenges faced by marginalized communities and how institutions can support or hinder individual potential.
Continuing her education, Regina attended Grand Canyon University and later National University, further expanding her expertise and credentials to support her professional growth. Between 2021 and 2024, she honed her skills and knowledge, deepening her understanding of the social services sector, which would later inform her work in child welfare.
Regina’s professional career began shortly after she completed her undergraduate studies. In September 2012, she became the Lead Teacher at Community Day School Association, a position she held for one year and one month. During this time, Regina worked closely with students to foster their educational growth, all while promoting a safe and nurturing environment. Her ability to connect with children and provide meaningful educational experiences laid the groundwork for her future endeavors in social services.
After leaving Community Day School, Regina worked as an Instructional Assistant at Seattle Public Schools from September 2014 to October 2015, a role that allowed her to further refine her skills in supporting students and teachers within a classroom setting. Her work in the school district deepened her understanding of the educational system and the various challenges that students face.
In June 2016, Regina’s career took a significant turn as she began working as a Clinical Social Worker at Sea Mar Community Health Centers. During her 11-month tenure, Regina provided crucial support to individuals and families, helping them navigate complex emotional, psychological, and social issues. Her role allowed her to gain invaluable experience in direct client work, where she worked to address mental health concerns and promote overall well-being for clients in need.
Regina’s passion for helping children and families led her to the Washington Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), where she became an Intensive Resource Program Consultant 4. In this position, she worked to assess and identify the needs of children and families requiring intensive resources. Her role involved providing consultation and expertise to help ensure that vulnerable children and families received the necessary support to thrive.
